TDBA 2020-21 Affiliation: Hi everyone, hope everyone is staying safe. Due to the Covid19 situation, it has taken Badminton Ontario a little more time to renew their insurance policy this time. They have finally reached an agreement with the insurance company and now you are able to update your affiliation with TDBA for the 2020-21 season. Why affiliate? Your club should affiliate because all clubs get $5M general liability and $2M Error & Ommissions/Directors & Officers insurance at a reasonable rate. This year's insurance runs from August 2020 to June 2021.
If you affiliate, you also become a member of Badminton Ontario. If you join as a competitive club your members can buy a player's card to compete in provincial sanctioned tournaments. All clubs will be listed on TDBA and Badminton Ontario's website and you can keep up to date on the latest district and provincial news and developments in badminton. If you have any questions, please email President@bgta.ca. You can find an affiliation form and costs at our Affiliation page.
Badminton Ontario 20-21 Season Delayed Start: Badminton Ontario is currently not in the position to deliver tournaments and events starting in the month of September given the landscape caused by COVID-19. September events will be postponed. A tentative competition calendar will be posted, however, they will continue to monitor the situation and address the ability to deliver tournament events on a month by month basis. Please see the attached notice. It includes a temporary schedule.
BON Notice Guidelines for Clubs as Phase 3 approaches: Please see attached notice to clubs regarding loosening of restrictions as most of Ontario now enters into Stage 3 of the Re-Opening plan for Ontario. We continue to urge all members of the badminton community to continue to practice safe protocols and to pay attention to the requirements in their jurisdiction and follow the by-laws in their city.
BON Notice Update to Guidelines for Clubs: Please see the attached notice to clubs surrounding doubles play:
"There has been much ambiguity around whether or not doubles play in badminton is permitted. After clarification and in speaking to other sports within the Province, its is clear that the two-metre distancing rules must be abided when entering any sporting facilities. This means that anybody who resides in the same household or are in the same established social circle must also still abide by the two-metre distancing rule once they step into a sporting facility.
With that being said, Badminton Ontario and Badminton Canada are retracting the following statement released in the letter on June 12, 2020: “Badminton Ontario and Badminton Canada strongly recommend that only pairs from the same household may play on the same side of the court and pairs should not switch sides during the match.”
Please read the letter for more details.
BON Notice to Clubs as parts of Ontario are moving to reopen: Please see the attached notice to clubs regarding loosening of restrictions as most of Ontario enters into Stage 2 of the Re-Opening plan for Ontario. You can also see the latest news by going to Badminton Ontario's website: http://www.badmintonontario.ca/
Updated info on Re-opening: Please see the attached documents regarding the procedures and outlines for re-opening.
PLEASE NOTE: Badminton Canada and Badminton Ontario also reminds all member clubs and registered individuals, that all activities must adhere to the Quarantine Act (Canada), Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (Ontario), as well as any municipal bylaws and facility rules in place related to COVDI-19 physical distancing and public or private gatherings. Failure to abide by these federal, provincial, or municipal requirements may result in legal prosecution by government as well as denial of insurance coverage by Badminton Ontario and possible Badminton Ontario and Badminton Canada disciplinary measures.
We also request that all clubs intending to re-open their facilities to share their re-opening plan and any communication to your members with Badminton Ontario. Please email to Jean Wong at email@example.com.
Badminton Canada and Badminton Ontario will continue to provide updates as part of our commitment to a safe return to play and training for all.
